Sushi Ya Japanese Restaurant is rated 4.6 out of 5 stars, based on 82 reviews!
Very good sushi. Staff is very nice and the owner will come sit down at the table and talk to you. That's good at times but sometimes you just wanna enjoy your meal with the people that you came with, not the owner. Sake selection is awesome and I would suggest getting the different course selection meals instead of just regular sushi. I was very surprised with the selection that was given to my table from the owner. We had different cuts of sushi, sashimi, and even some ribs and other salad/fish dishes. Not a big seafood guy but it is by far one of my favorite meals to get in the area!
Omg this restaurant so good . The sushi are so fresh . Kelly are so friendly . I am first time here ... omg so good ... she serve me like a king ! I had great time with my friends here .
Good food, good service!!!
Place is very intimate and maybe be a little smaller but they make up for it in attentiveness and care for the customers. My tea never went empty and was asked several times if you enjoyed the meal. I also had two kids which if you are a parent knows it may just take you forever to get them to eat. Their patience great, let me relax and feed my kids.
I would definitely be back even though their other one is larger. The intimate environment and omakase is a definitely plus!!!! Thanks.
Awesome spot very friendly and outstanding fresh Food. The owner is a gentleman and on site.
This place is AMAZE-BALLS. They will treat you with such kindness and TLC. I came here last week, and the owner owner really sweet. She remembered my name! Plus the sushi is EXCELLENT!!!!!!! I love coming here because the vibes are great!!!!!! Come here when you wanna drink and chill. Love it. I recommend getting the Red Head special roll AND the Peach margarita!!
Fresh fish, great service. They have a hibachi section as well as the traditional sit down sushi. We ordered a few specialty rolls and their sushi boat. They were all tasty although I thought the boat was a bit expensive for the amount of sushi. The owner was super friendly and introduced himself and invited us back to try their omakase.
This place is very good probably some of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. The menu has a lot of selections, so there is certainly something for everyone. Yellowtail sashimi is very delicious.
Sushi Ya is one of my favorite sushi places on Long Island. The quality of the sushi is very good and tastes good. For those that don't care for sushi, they also have standard cooked Japanese food as well as hibachi dishes.
I ordered the sushi deluxe and it comes with spicy yellowtail roll and various sushi pieces.
I always go back here whenever I visit my family on Long Island.
I have been going to Sushi Ya for years and it never disappoints. I absolutely recommend this place and I will continue dining at this restaurant for years to come. This place is in my top three Japanese restaurants.
delicious and such nice people. Love their miso soup and the spicy salmon roll is the best HERE of all places I've tried around LI. Salmon taste fresh and not that blended mushyness like a lot of places are! Nice spicy chunks with cucumber and a good kick of spice. Love it here
I came here with one of my besties to catch up. I wasn't really that hungry so I opted for the monster roll and the spicy tuna roll. I guess I expected the monster roll to be cooked but it wasn't (my mistake). What I tried tasted decent and the hurricane cocktail was okay as well. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. I guess the next time I come I'll ask if certain sushi rolls are cooked.
Came here for the outdoor seating on my lunch hour. It was a really warm, sunny day but the outdoor tables had umbrellas that kept perfect shade.
I ordered ::
The green salad w/ ginger dressing- All iceberg lettuce. Average flavor ginger dressing, a little watery than I'd prefer texture wise.
Chicken Hibachi lunch- Comes with side of clear soup and green salad.
The "clear soup" had a very off taste. Almost sour. Miso soup shouldn't be replaced with this!
The chicken hibachi sauce wasn't anything to come back for, but satisfying enough.
Good for the the quick lunch break, staff was very attentive and friendly but would try another place over this one next time.
Best sushi place around. Really good rolls and super nice waiters and waitresses. Especially the owners they are both very nice and talk to you all the time. I personally like the spicy tuna roll but I always find something new on the menu that tastes great! Totally recommend this place to everyone of all ages!
This is one of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever been to! I highly recommend it anyone!!!
I'm not A big fan of sushi but this was very good I definitely go back and give it a second chance
Have not had sit down dinner here yet but did have grubhub delivery. It took about an hour to be delivered but the sushi was very good.
Ordered a handroll spicy tuna with brown rice (extra free) but it was delicious. Also ordered the iron tuna which is chopped spicy tuna wrapped in sear tuna- amazingly good.
I am looking forward to having a sit down dinner but happy grubhub is delivering.
The food here is so fresh, especially the sashimi and octopus. We usually also get the raw oysters here as well and they might be the best raw oysters I've ever had. I would definitely recommend this Japanese restaurant if you love raw fish like I do. I also thoroughly enjoy the mochi icecream and fried cheesecake. My family and I come here pretty regularly and love the owners as well.
This is the best sushi in local area. It's very well priced and sushi is fresh. Service is quick and try are polite.
Good weekday lunch spot though it can get busy around 1230. The sushi lunch special is only $12 for 6 pieces of sushi a tuna roll, and comes with a soup and a salad. I have pictures below. We also tried the dustin roll, which was tasty but I don't like the cream cheese. The owner is extremely friendly and adds to the warm feeling the dining room has. She pointed out that they always have a list of exciting specials with premium ingredients. I put a picture on the current specials below. Parking is easy as there is an 8,000 car parking lot behind the stores on Franklin Street and Sushi Ya has a back entrance.
Best place for lunch. Came with my mother in law for lunch. Did not know what to expect. The place is clean and foods are super fresh. We got so excited when we see how they prepared the fish.
The garlic edamame and shrimp tempura appetizers were good. We had the sushi and sashimi for two and it was super fresh! Nice, cozy ambiance. The owner and staff are very friendly.
delicious and such nice people. Love their miso soup and the spicy salmon roll is the best HERE of all places I've tried around LI. Salmon taste fresh and not that blended mushyness like a lot of places are! French spicy chunks with cucumber and a good kick of spice. Love it here
Love sushi ya, they deliver pretty fast and sushi/ veggies are always fresh. You are going to pay the garden city premium here , but at least you are getting a good meal. Definitely recommend
Finally found the BEST sushi place! The sushi is so fresh. So many different options. The garlic
Edamame is a must! Miso soup is great. I had a shrimp tempura roll topped with king crab and caviar. Very light mayo and very light batter for the tempura so it was healthy. Best service too.
I'm not sure they only have 3.5 stars. This place has great service in person and on the phone. Their sushi is so tasty and fresh! They are clean and well maintained. Drinks are delicious! Hibachi is really really tasty and cool to watch! I love this place! The owner is very nice too! Keep up the great work guys!!
Sushi Ya far exceeded my expectations, although they were low. I ordered 3 rolls, on a random Saturday night, the spicy 3 roll combo. It came with a salad. The price is a little high, but that's to be expected in Garden City. The brown rice option, for an extra dollar, was a great substitute. The sushi was fresh, and delicious. The young man who greeted me, and ushered me past some grumpy man, was pleasant, as was the lady at the front desk who gave me my food. I will definitely continue to patronize Sushi Ya, and hopefully they have lunch specials that I can take advantage of.
I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews on this place. I come here ALL THE TIME! I have brought family, friends, dates, and co-workers here and every single person only had good things to say about this place.
The service is great, the owner of the place is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet! The lady at the front desk is a sweetheart as well.
Prices for the sushi here are the same as anywhere else, about $6 or $6.50 per regular roll, not too bad. The special rolls are a bit pricey though, about $10 to $11 each. All in all, if you decide to bring a date here, you wont be spending more than $50 on that date. Lunch specials are really cheap as well, took my co-worker here on a Saturday and we each got 2 rolls, soup, salad, spicy mayo, and tea. The bill came out to $26 - we just split it straight down the middle.
Now for the food, my favorite part!
Sushi - 9.5/10 - I have yet to be disappointed by the sushi here. My favorite is the Spicy Tuna, Boston, and Eel Avocado roll.
Miso Soup - Straight 10/10. Hands down, best miso soup i have ever had, period. No other sushi joint can compare.
Their appetizers are amazing as well. If i am really hungry, i get either the Kani Salad or the Garlic Edamame. Both are absolutely delicious. I give those appetizers a straight 10/10.
Dessert - Havent really tried the dessert menu all that much, but when i do, i always get the green tea ice cream because its delicious.
Now for the big stuff: Hibachi.
They have two hibachi tables next to each other. The first time i tried their hibachi was a couple of years ago, i decided to throw my 23rd birthday party here with family and friends. I set up a reservation a couple of days in advance to make sure we had our table ready. We got to the venue and we were seated and greeted immediately.
I decided to get my self the Chicken and Steak combo hibachi. It comes with rice and vegetables. My chicken was absolutely outstanding and my steak was medium rare, juicy, and delicious. Vegetable fried rice, nothing too special about it.
I decided to steal a piece of my friends fried shrimp and it was AMAZING! Must try!
The hibachi chef was very skilled, funny, and nice. Doesn't speak that much English but its okay!
I had such a great hibachi experience on my birthday that i ended up singing as i was walking out of the venue. First experience - 10/10.
Cant say the same about the second time i decided to do hibachi here. The Chicken was dry, steak was over cooked, food didn't have enough salt, vegetable fried rice had TOO much soy sauce. I was actually really disappointed. The service was surprisingly terrible and we were asked to give up our seats for a reservation that was coming in, which we were okay with. I guess it was an off day for them. Second Experience - 3/10.
Overall review:
Service - 8/10
Sushi - 9/10
Miso Soup - 10/10
Appetizers - 10/10
Hibachi - i would say 7/10 because they are inconsistent. On a good day you have a 10/10 experience, but on a bad day, anything goes.
Dessert - Cant comment much since i haven't really tried the whole menu
Venue - 8/10
Overall score - 8.5/10
Great sushi not far from work. Had dinner there, plan to return for lunch.
After a long morning of shopping, we were all hungry and craving sushi. Sushi Ya was close and had good reviews, so we ended up here and ended up happy. Service was friendly.
It was a late lunch, and we were one of the only groups in the place, but not sure how busy the Village of Garden City gets for Saturday lunch. Sushi Ya had lunch specials, which is appreciated. Between four of us, we had the garlic edamame, mona rolls, sushi bento box lunch special, sushi and sashimi lunch special, and an order of tuna sushi. Everything was good and everyone liked everything. The sushi bento box is huge and your best bet. It comes with miso soup, salad, tempura, beef teriyaki, vegetables, shumai, three types of sushi, and rice. The tempura is perfectly crisp and was delicious. I had a piece of eggplant, which I don't usually see, so I was happy about that. I thought the sushi (tuna, white tuna, and salmon) was fresh and the cuts were big. My other favorite item was the edamame. Coated in garlic, it's quite addictive, and I highly recommend.
There's a few other sushi spots near Sushi Ya, but I'm going back here if I return to the area
Sushi Ya has the best sushi I have found outside of the city. I live right by here, and I've tried much of the competition. This restaurant is unparalleled for the area in the freshness of the fish and the creativity of the rolls. Eating here is blissful. Nearly everything I've had from there was top-notch. The interior is very comfortably decorated as well. This is just slightly more expensive than other area sushi restaurants, but it is so worth it, and there are cheaper specials.
So this Sushi Ya is okay. The price isn't terrible, but for some daggone reason, whenever we seem to go, there are always KIDS or some other noisy ass group of adults. But the ambience is still very nice. The food is very good though, quality is not compromised in any way here. We go here when we may not feel like driving to west hell to get sushi.
I'm always eating sushi, so I've gotten quite good at spotting/smelling/tasting fresh fish. For the most part, Sushi Ya has it. Sometimes, not. Today, I had some fishy tasting pieces of sashimi. Euw. I understand if you use this kind of fish in a spicy tuna or something when you chop the living daylights out of it and mask it with some sauce, but please do not use this when it's supposed to be enjoyed on its own. Gross.
That point aside, their sushi creations are quite fun. They have awesome combos and everything in their maki tastes delicious!
Everytime I go here, I get red bean ice cream... BUT not before I get judged. Whether it be clarification to the waiter/waitress that yes, in addition to my rather large plate of sushi, I will be having dessert or having my waiter/waitress skip right to the check without even inquiring about dessert. Tsk tsk. They like to keep their patrons thin, so you'll be starving for the next time you show.
Unfortunately, they're the only sushi place close to me. :sigh: I will be returning, despite being crucified for wanting something sweet after dinner.
Good sushi joint located in the heart of Garden City.
I love the outdoor seating area at Sushi Ya, it is a great place to take a date in the warmer weather months.
I have been about 3 times now, and so far I have tried a number of the rolls and sushi.
They have a crispy lobster roll which is very good, as well as Glenn's magic bowl which is a bowl of rice topped with various slices of fish, tempura crunch, and spicy sauce. Everything I have tried so far has been well prepared and fresh, check it out.
Wow, so this why they opened the second one. The first one shows me exactly why, the sushi is just as great and many more specials. There is a difference in the menu as it seem this one caters more to sushi fanatics with many many kinds of specials all of which I want to try. Some that I have already tried are the iron tuna, ninja and many of the specials rolls allianna, sushi ya roll, anthony roll. This just makes it hard to choose which one to go to now.
If you are used to NYC sushi then LI sushi can be a bit of a let down. How happy was I when Sushi Ya opened in my hometown. At first, they didn't have a liquor license and I was worried they wouldn't survive. Now, a few years later - they seem pretty busy almost every night. Waits are usual on the weekend.
The sushi is "really good" - not exactly nobu, but very good non-the-less. its a no-frills kinda place but the staff is very friendly. If the wait is longer than usual, you'll likely get free glasses of warm Saki.
Highly recommend if you are in the area.
Great sushi. This is my go to place at work for a good lunch or some sushi to take home for dinner.
Get the loveboat sushi platter! Great food and service.
Love Sushi Ya. Go atleast once a month great, they have a great selection of special rolls a couple habachi tables which is fun if you have a group. Owners Kelly and Eric are always friendly and allot of fun if you get to know them. I Always leave satisfied.
Fresh fish & friendly service make this a solid pick for sushi.
They have stepped up the quality since my last review - maybe due to increased competition. Hands down, best sushi in Garden City.
I love this place! I come here for casual dining with my friends or for family functions. The Hibachi Chefs are so interactive and in my opinion, the best I have seen on Long Island.
The staff is friendly, service is quick and the owners are so sweet. I feel like home here! They are always offering us free Sake and drinks.
Their seasoning in their rice, fish and meat is something special...different from most places. The dish you have to try is the Tomy Tropical Fried Rice. It has chicken, shrimp and fresh pineapple topped with cashews inside an actual pineapple!
Sushi Ya is probably one of the rarest jewels of Garden City. I have read through the majority of the inappropriate postings regarding this restaurant. Think most of you are probably not too familiar with eating decent creative Japanese food. My husband, daughter and I eat here several times a month for dinner. For those patrons who feel that the owners are too friendly shame on you. You are lucky and blessed these days if any restaurant owners make you feel that much at home. Kelly and Eric have a rare gift. They give 110% to all their customers. If a customer is not totally satisfied with anything don't stay quiet - bring it to the attention of your server or for that matter the owners- believe me they aim to please. If there was an issue with any of their menu items they welcome critisim because they would improve on something if something was wrong.
Sushi Ya in Garden City is our regular "date night" place. Kelly and Eric are always warm and inviting and the sushi is always fresh, without fail. We love the rolls, entrees and even the Hibachi as a treat. When I went onto Yelp to see if people loved Sushi Ya as much as we did, I was surprised to see one or two unpleasant remarks - One of which cites rolls which are not even listed on Sushi Ya's menu! Its as if these reviewers were describing another sushi restaurant. Normally, I don't like to share my "secret" when we find a fabulous dining establishment, but felt it was necessary to clear the air and let any reader know that if you go to Sushi Ya, you will be treated well, fed well, and will walk out with the take-out menu excited to pick out options for next time.
Went here for a birthday dinner. Great service and really large portions at the hibachi. The chefs are very personable and put on a great show for the kids.
Parking has never been a problem when we've gone there.
I love this place. The king crab roll is awesome. My daughter loves to sit and eat in with her friends. I love to order from home and enjoy. Quick deliveries. Always fresh a great place to try something new.
Very pleased. My boyfriend is extremely picky about his sushi (he is on the Kotobuki band wagon) but when we don't feel like driving to Kotobuki we come to Sushi Ya. I echo the comment below about the King Crab roll- really good! I also really like their champagne with hibiscus syrup, delicious. The only negatives I have really found is that if there is a party at the hibachi, your service might be a bit slow and I am a big fan of toro/tuna teriyaki and they do not offer it here. Otherwise, big fan of Sushi Ya.
Always great food, always a great time. Kelly one of the owners is hilarious super funny and so on point. It is like getting a free comedy show with dinner! The food is delicious, we don't even open a menu we just tell Eric(other owner) to feed us the best, and that is what we get all fresh fish sliced and prepared perfectly. The food is great, I always walk out stuffed! In Fact my first date was here and what a fabulous date it was! I love sushi ya the food is great and the owners are wonderful.
Concur with freshness of the seafood and the great service that I read about in other reviews. I had the "Clear" soup and the "Marie" roll (a gussied-up eel avocado roll with crunch and extra spice). Both were delicious. Also had the "Dynamite" by suggestion as an appetizer. Coming from someone who isn't fond of scallops, this dish made with chopped scallops and crab meat served hot with a mustard-like sauce was enjoyable. Although we pushed our bill with premium alcohol, the meal was a bit pricey despite.
My wife and I have been semi-regulars at Sushi-Ya (mostly the Garden City location and on weekend evenings only, because I stay over in the city on many weekday nights) for the past 7 years. We were long time patrons of Kisso's located on Union Tpke in New Hyde Park but with Sushi-Ya being at a somewhat closer distance to our house, we had decided to give it a try and have not often returned to Kisso's. The staff and the owners at Sushi-Ya are engaging and friendly. They do their best to make you feel welcomed on each visit. The menu selections are essentially what you might expect to be available at a sushi restaurant and in our experience the food preparation has been mostly uniformly first-rate. The size of the portions are quite satisfactory. I fairly rate our overall dining experience at Sushi-Ya to be an "A." It should be mentioned that out front curb side parking opportunities are limited, but there is ample free parking in the spacious rear municipal lot.
Went to Sushi-Ya for lunch on May 18 with my father for the first time. For a Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was almost completely empty. After our drink orders, our server came back and was honest that she had been mistaken and they didn't have my father's preferred type of gin; this was a nice touch as they could have easily substituted and charged us a higher price. (The drink was made perfectly, by the way). She was very attentive and patient while we decided what we wanted to eat, since she could tell my dad hadn't been to this type of restaurant in a long time (and laughed off his request for hot and sour soup!). I had the spicy crab roll and the alianna roll, while Dad had the salmon teriyaki. Both dishes were cooked (or, in my case, rolled) to perfection and were absolutely delicious. The alianna roll, which opts to put the crunch on top of the roll rather than incorporated in with the fish, was light and satisfying at the same time. The salmon was delicate and went very well with the full-bodied teriyaki glaze. We gave our compliments to the chef and he thanked us as well -- the service here truly was very welcoming. Overall, the experience was fantastic and I would absolutely return!
Just an update - Unfortunately, I haven't been able to eat here in a long time. However, I was craving Japanese food so I made a reservation at 9pm. I ended up arriving 40 minutes late and they still were polite and served us! (Even though they close at 10pm) Food and service was excellent as usual. I truly think this is the best sushi restaurant in Long Island.
Love you guys!
I have been coming here for years. The food has stayed consistently great. I highly recommend the old country roll and king crab roll. It is my go to meal!
Walk in with a friend to order good to go and am immediately greeted by a very friendly man. Great lunch specials and good sushi. Will be back to try their aa
The wait staff was very attentive and the the sushi we order tasted fresh. Management was very accommodating and checked on our our table a few times throughout out meal. I would gladly recommend this place to friends.
We came here for my Birthday dinner
The sushi was super fresh, try the Diamond roll
This place is authentic!
How can you not love this place? I have been coming here for years. The sushi is amazing and Kelly and Eric are the best restaurant owners I have ever met...always happy to see us walk in the door and ask for an update on our lives. Love coming for the food and staying to let Kelly get us nice and drunk!!!
Since moving to Long Island, I have been in search of a great sushi restaurant. I have tried to rely on other yelpers, to no avail. Finally, my co-workers and I stumbled into to this little gem. The service was great, but the food was even better! The amount of rolls that they had to order from was awesome, I had 2 as well as everyone else. Every single roll we shared was better than the next. I also had eaten their teriyaki chicken on another visit, also amazing. I have yet to try the hibachi, but watched the last time I visited, and it looks great! Can't wait to go back friday:)
After having a yen for sushi yesterday but feeling too tired to drive to Kotobuki in Roslyn, which is my favorite sushi restaurant in Nassau County and because the sushi places in my immediate area are mediocre at best, I decided to try Sushi Ya due to excellent reviews both from customers and critics. After checking the menu online, I decided to order a Sushi and Sashimi Deluxe Combo and a Chicken Negimaki entree. I called Sushi Ya and got a good first impression of the service as the gentleman who took my order was friendly, courteous, and attentive to my needs. He stated that my order would take 10-15 minutes to prepare, so I made the quick 10 minute drive to Garden City and was easily able to find street parking along Franklin Avenue (there are also village lots). When I walked inside, I found Sushi Ya to be clean and modern looking, with regular tables towards the front of the restaurant along with two hibachi tables if I'm not mistaken. The host stand was in the back near another entrance and I found Kate, the hostess at the time, to be very friendly and welcoming. She had my order ready and it came out to $24 for the sashimi and sushi platter and $16 for the Chicken Negimaki entre, which despite the slightly smaller portion size than Kotobuki, was in line with other Japanese restaurants in the area. When I got home, I found everything to be delicious. I first tried the Sushi and Sashimi Deluxe Combo, which contained satiny and buttery Salmon in in nigiri and sashimi form, moist and meaty tuna in nigiri and roll form, two pieces of tender and not chewy octopus, mild and flaky yellowtail, and sweet and mild fluke. After enjoying the delicious sushi, I found the Chicken Negimaki, which I split for two meals due to the relatively large portion size and the fact that I ate the sushi first to have tender and juicy chicken with savory scallions tucked in the center and a sweet and salty teriyaki sauce surrounding it. The Chicken Negimaki was also accompanied by various vegetables, which included a sweet carrot, two crisp heads of broccoli, a dollop of sweet mashed sweet potato, and a dollop of earthy and creamy mashed potatoes. My meal also came with a salad, which had crisp lettuce and a tangy miso dressing, making for a wonderful accompaniment to my meal. Based on this meal, I would definitely add Sushi Ya as a top pick for sushi in Nassau County and it is nice to have a good option for sushi that is closer to home to satisfy my cravings for Japanese.
Extra ordinary sushi restaurant sushi with no menu is awesome and the chefs are true artisans in their profession.
Kinney, Albert and Wing are Masters
This place is very nice. Service was great and the food was well prepared and tasty. The sushi ya roll was good, and the spicy salmon hand roll with crunch was phenomenal with the right amount of salmon, crunch, and spice. The texture of the fish was also nice and tender.
We went for my birthday this past week and had booked both hibachi tables. We had the most amazing experience, and the staff was so awesome. Loved the commentary from the chef while making the food! The food was delicious as well! I would definitely recommend it!
Hadn't been in awhile and it seems like they changed up the rolls. The Alliana roll was amazing and unique. The sushi ya roll had a garlic sauce that was also amazing, never had anything like it. The tuna pizza was also great on fresh fried tortilla.
Been with them since the start. Always friendly, great food, good times.
I have taken menu suggestions and sometimes been given new things just to try. They have opened up my palette to try new things. I discovered sushi later in life and was hesitant to go beyond a Philly Roll.
Moderately priced, full bar (small bar), great selection. Not just sushi, plenty of items to choose from.
Kelly and Eric bend over backwards to make their customers happy. I often notice how they know everybody's name and take the time to interact with regulars.
Hibachi is entertaining and usually see 1 or 2 birthday events enjoying the show.
I am a creature of habit and eat here regularly, they set the bar high when I eat at other places.
I was introduced to sushi ya last year by good friends who are regulars, no I'm recommending it when I can! The food is amazing & service impeccable. Highly recommend.
just picked up lunch from here, the lady at the front desk was very sweet. I ordered a spicy tuna and salmon roll with brown rice for 11$, pretty good deal! it also came with miso and a salad--the best miso I've ever had it even had bean sprouts in it...there are alot of sushi places on franklin avenue but i think this is my new favorite! will definatly be coming here again
Coming here for years. Love Kelly and Eric! The staff is amazing. Great food and company every time you come into this restaurant.
We came here on a Friday night for sushi. My friend ordered various rolls all great and something off he menu. They were very accommodating. Sushi chef Albert is great. I ordered the Salmon hibachi which came with salad and soup and all were delicious! They gave me a really nice portion of salmon and it was so fresh. The ambiance is nice and he music was really good. My youngest son ordered steak teriyaki and I loved it which is amazing! The place is really nice and I would definitely come back.
Food was top notch. Had the fresh oysters and fresh UNI as an appetizer. Everything was well prepared and very fresh. Main course was spectacular as well. Sashimi was sweet, did not smell at all and was very fresh.
Eric and Kelly the owners took very good care of us and included a free saki which was all the same very good, did not have a bad bite and was very well fitting with our meal. I will certainly return here for many more meals.
We have been going to Sushi Ya for almost a decade. Through the years they have consistently served top quality seafood and innovative specials. The owners are incredibly welcoming and can almost always be found in the restaurant. Easily the best Sushi place around.
This is one of my favorite sushi places in the Garden City area.

Great!
fresh, innovative sushi, great for lunch...
We've come here for lunch a few times, and the food is always actually pretty good, decent price, cute and modern decor. Some of the waitresses however can be a little bitter. Overall enjoyed the experience, still come here often.
excellent sushi, nice place worth going there
Sushi Ya is the trendiest place to eat in Garden City. Amazing food, friendly/caring staff and a fabulous bar. Can't go wrong with the atmosphere but it's close encounter seating. Not something that you can't handle but just to know. Not just for the variety series's but for the amatures too (the "never tried sushi before" -- just try the California roll, miso soup and Ginger salad) :)
Good, fresh sushi and a friendly staff. A safe bet.
Much nicer since they updated with new chairs that are elegant and very comfy. Reasonable prices, large portions.
I have been eating takeout here once a week for years. Never had a bad meal. Very nice.
